Battery Buddy Case

Several weeks ago I read about a device called a Battery Buddy, and I believe it was in your column. The device in question attaches to the battery cable, and when the battery voltage drops to a predetermined level it shuts off all current to the vehicle.

I spend part of the year in Minnesota and part of the year in California. I leave a car at each end, and have trouble with the battery going dead over time. I now disconnect the cables when I leave, but the device mentioned above would be much simpler, especially if someone had to start the car to move it while I am away.

I would certainly appreciate any information you might have on where the Battery Buddy can be purchased.

There are several different manufacturers that produce items for this same basic purpose. That is to break the connection to the vehicle's battery when battery voltage drops below a certain point in order to prevent a no start condition. This can happen due to a number of reasons, such as leaving your lights on, a door ajar, sitting for long periods of time, or even a power draining short (or electrical draw).

I'm going to suggest looking into the 'Priority-Start' Automatic Battery Protection Device. Reports show its electronic design to be innovative, and of higher quality than other versions. The unit will disconnect the vehicle's battery when battery voltage drops below 12 volts. Then it will automatically reconnect the battery and get you on your way by simply switching on the ignition. In other words, you don't have to do anything!
